I have been in school for 17 years now, but as I gear up for another school year, this 18th year will be quite different than all the rest. This year, I will be in graduate school to earn my Master's degree while also interning (student teaching) for a full school year at TG Smith Elementary in Springdale. Because this school year will be such a learning experience, I have set a few goals for myself in order to remain true to myself. I am sharing these in hopes that those who read will help hold me accountable throughout this next school year.
Be an encourager, to students, to peers, to teachers.
Set a good example for students, peers, and other teachers.
Remain positive through all things; look for the good in all situations.
Stay passionate about teaching and learning, gain more passion during the year,
and inspire others around me to be passionate.
Be creative and take risks when planning and implementing lessons.
Take critisicm (without getting my feelings hurt) and learn/grow from my mistakes.
Don't get too big for my britches. I will be working under great, experienced teachers...
I still have A LOT to learn.
BE A LEADER.
I searched for a verse to sum this all up and found Matthew 5:16; "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven." Being a teacher will give me pedestal to let God's light shine through me. While I may not be able to talk to students and teachers about Jesus, I can say all that I need to say through my actions...in the way that I treat those people around me..in the way that I handle stressful situations...and in the way that I carry myself through those hallways.
Throughout this year, I also have to remember that I have a husband at home that will need my time and attention. I pray that I will not be short with him due to stress and frustration during the day. I pray that we will get through this year together, working as a team.
I start professional development tomorrow, and I am excited/nervous/ready to go! This year is sure to fly by! I won't be able to do it without your thoughts and prayers!
Samantha
